They called us clandestine — hidden, secret, illegitimate. We broke the word open. Look what was waiting inside.

Called Clandestine
For 200 Years
For over two centuries, Black fraternal orders — especially Prince Hall Masons — were branded clandestine by the establishment. They held legitimate charters. They kept the same rituals. But because they were Black, they were called illegitimate. In some states, that denial still stands today.
"That word was meant to break us.
We wear it now as a crown."
